How refilling works
Refilling is easy. Here's the whole thing.
First time? Relax — there's no secret handshake. Bring a container, we'll weigh it, you fill up what you need, and you pay by the ounce. We'll walk you through every step at the counter, so you can't get it wrong.
Four steps, start to finish
That's the whole routine. It takes a few minutes and gets quicker every visit.
Bring a container
Any clean, dry container you've got — or grab one of our deposit jars on the way in. No need to buy anything special.
We tare it
We weigh your empty container first. That's the "tare," and it means you never pay for the weight of the jar itself.
Fill what you need
Pump or pour exactly the amount you want, from a single ounce to a full gallon. Top up a little or stock up a lot.
Weigh & pay
We weigh it again, subtract the tare, and you pay by the ounce for just the product. That's it — you're done.
Which containers work best
Almost anything with a lid can be a refill container. The best ones are easy to fill, easy to clean, and roomy enough to be worth the trip.
Great choices
- Wide-mouth jars — easiest to fill and to scoop from
- Pump bottles from soap, lotion, or shampoo
- Old laundry detergent jugs (rinsed and dried)
- Mason jars and other sturdy glass
Best to skip
- Cracked or leaky containers
- Anything still sticky or greasy inside
- Containers that aren't fully dry (water dilutes your refill)
The one rule: clean, dry, and residue-free. Give your container a good wash, let it dry all the way, and make sure there's nothing left of what was in there before.
It keeps everyone's refills fresh and our pumps happy. If a container shows up sticky, wet, or a little worse for wear, we may ask you to grab a deposit jar instead — no hard feelings.
Forgot a container? No problem.
It happens to all of us. We keep a stack of sanitized deposit jars by the door for exactly this moment. Grab one for a small refundable deposit — $2 — fill it up, and take it home.
Next time you're in, bring the jar back for your deposit or just refill it again. Same jar, round and round — which is rather the whole point around here.
